Passage: Matthew 1:18–25

Today is Christmas Day and Christmas Sunday, something that happens once every seven years. And this makes our gathering today even more special. We gather every Sunday because Jesus came and died on the cross for sinners, but this truth is especially important on this Christmas Sunday. In today’s sermon, we are considering the birth of Jesus from the account in Matthew’s gospel. In Matthew’s account, we are given the details of Jesus’ birth from Joseph’s perspective, and in this account we see that Jesus was to be called by two names: Jesus and Immanuel. Today, we are considering the meaning of Immanuel.
